The Beginning of Watertight Tests

Location:

United States, Hartford City, Indiana United States, Spring City, Pennsylvania

Precaster:

Hartford Concrete Products / A.C. Miller Concrete Products

The Situation:

As part of developing standards for communication infrastructure in the United States, Bell Laboratories develped new test standards for the precast concrete industry.  Bell Laboratories – in conjunction with A.C. Miller Concrete Products, Hartford Concrete Products, and Concrete Sealants – started testing utility vaults for watertight integrity. Utilizing a water test and a smoke test, it was proven that butyl rubber sealants provide the best, watertight seal.

The Solution:

Many technological advancements developed from these new standards and test methods.  One of those advancements is CS-202, a sealant that provides superior adhesion and watertight protection between concrete castings than previously available technologies.

Sealant Application:

  • Utility Vaults

ConSeal Products Used:

Applicable Industry Standards:

  • ASTM C990
